Farm Tales

Hello Everyone!

We have had a really busy February down on the farm, Michael has lambed nearly all of his sheep and the sheds are full of ewes and lambs waiting for some drier and warmer weather so we can hopefully put them out to grass later this month.

Most of the cattle are still indoors but the grass is starting to really grow now, and it won’t be long before they are out to grass too!

We are thinking about calving, as although, we are still two months away we need to wean the calves that are still with their mothers, so that their milk dries up and they can have some R&R away from the “kids” before they calve down in May / June.

The calves will go to join another bunch of contemporaries to make some friends and will be put out to grass for the summer.

For those of you who don’t know we are now offering Pork Boxes, alongside our Beef and Lamb meat boxes. For regular updates and photos just check out our Facebook and Instagram pages.

Have a lovely month and I look forward to reporting our goings on, once Spring has sprung (fingers crossed!)

Farm Tales

Our meat manifesto! Think about the meat you eat….

Is it GOOD enough? Good enough to bring you pleasure every time you eat it? Could it, should it be better?

Are you among the millions of consumers putting pressure on farmers to produce mountains of cheap meat of dubious quality... by dubious means?

Think about the animals from which the meat you eat comes from. Are you concerned about how they have been treated? Have they lived well? Have they been fed on appropriate food? Have they been treated with respect?

Perhaps it would make sense to spend a little more on meat a little less often!

We are here to help! Our customers will testify that once you convert to our meat boxes, you will wave supermarket meat goodbye! We offer Beef, Lamb and new to 2021 Pork Boxes.

Life on the farm is as busy as ever! We are flat out in the lambing shed which is undoubtedly one of our busiest times of year! We are waiting with bated breath for the spring to arrive and with-it warmer weather, longer days and more importantly a little more time!

Farm Tales

2020! What a year! At least we can all now look forward to 2021 with some hope that it will be a little easier than the last 12 months! Thank you everyone who supported us with our new venture, and we can’t wait to share our new ideas and plans with you all in due course.

We are now full swing into lambing and all of our ewes have come into the sheds! We keep a very close eye on them with round the clock, watches! Hay and water patrols are only interrupted when a little lamb joins us! Although this can be a stressful time on the farm, as we still need to get all the other jobs done and feed all the other animals, it is always really nice to see the flock expand.

The cattle are doing well, and we are making sure that they all get lots to eat by feeding them home grown silage. Will can often be found on his tractor or the truck doing the rounds first thing in the morning to make sure everyone is ok!

We took a little break from the meat boxes in January to give oursleves time to take stock and to give you all time to empty the freezer! We will however, have Beef and Lamb Boxes available in February and as ever the boxes are available for pre-order.

Farm Tales

This month I wanted to talk to you all about something a little different. With the colder months drawing in and lockdown depression bubbling just beneath the surface I thought it would be fun to talk about some festivities! Winter has a lot of promise with Halloween, Bonfire night and Christmas ready and waiting to cheer us up!

There is an ancient word which epitomises the festivities of the colder months: “Wassail”. The term first appeared around the 1500s in the cider making counties of England. People would huddle together on cold evenings. Bonfires would be lit, and folk songs would be sung to bless the trees and the fruit that they bring. The ritual would banish evil spirits bringing promise for a bountiful harvest!

It has been a few years since we held a Wassail on the farm but we sure could do with banishing the evil virus which is currently encompassing us all!

We are still hard at work on the farm and we hope that our grass-fed beef and lamb boxes can bring a bit of warmth to your homes this winter.

We still have Christmas Beef and Turkey Boxes available for pre-order.

You can find all of our products on our brand-new website: www.perrinpitfarm.com.

This includes the details for our Christmas Boxes, which are jam packed full of goodies to help you celebrate and we have options for all budgets. Or you can build your own from our wonderful selection of products – just get in touch!

Farm Tales

Autumn has arrived and although the temperature has dropped it is BEAUTIFUL out there at the moment.

We have had another busy month on the farm! We have been moving the cattle about to make sure they are all set for the winter. We have also been cultivating the ground and planting our winter crops which we will harvest next summer.

October has seen a new batch of calves arrive on the farm. These will enter our commercial beef herd and will join the rest as soon as they are weaned. In the meantime, we have been kept busy making sure that our new arrivals are well fed and cosy in their new home.

The Suffolk sheep are continuing to do well. The rams have now been taken away from the ewes and we will be scanning the ewes to see if they’re ‘in-lamb’ next month! We are making sure they are all ok at least twice a day and are busy clearing out the sheds and checking our supplies before they come in during the winter for lambing.

The beef and lamb boxes continue to fly out of the kitchen. We really do appreciate the support, and you can continue to order boxes each month.

We have launched a series of Christmas Boxes which are jam packed full of goodies to help you celebrate. To continue the good news we are bringing back the TURKEYS and will be able to supply you with Turkey for Christmas (from out sister farm).

Farm Tales

In this month’s farm tales, we wanted to introduce you our two favourite furry friends…Dotty and Pingu! Our little terriers, who love spending their days on the farm. They can often be found scampering over the hay and straw bales or trying to steal any left-over milk from the calves!

September has been a busy one for us as we have been bringing in the hay and straw to keep us going over the winter. After we finished cutting the grass for hay or silage, we spread muck onto the ground. Although this isn’t very glamorous it is essential to keep the nutrients in the soil so that it is ready for the cultivations in the autumn.

When we haven’t been on the tractor, we have been spending time looking after our livestock. This month has seen several days of Tb testing for the cattle, which we carry out with the vet.

We have also been busy taking some of the ram lambs from our Suffolk flock to the sale in order to make way for the new arrivals in the Spring. As we like to lamb early, we have put our trust ram in with the ewes – you can find more about this in a video on our social media!

The beef and lamb boxes have been flying from the kitchen and we are already taking orders for October! If you haven’t had one yet – don’t miss out. Please get in touch to reserve your box.

We have 3 boxes available 4kg (£50), 7kg (£90) and 10kg (£130) more details can be found on our Facebook page Perrinpit Farm Meat Boxes or please do get in touch on: perrinpitmeatboxes@outlook.com or Tel: 07919 891 770

Farm Tales

Some of you may already know us, however, for those who don’t we wanted to use our first month in the boundary to introduce ourselves. We are local farmers based in Frampton Cotterell and we have been farming in the area for 4 generations. Our whole family is dedicated to the farm and as a result are very proud of its heritage and particularly our speciality of rearing beef and sheep.

We have a long-standing flock of Suffolk sheep and a strong herd of beef cattle some of which is from our suckler herd and some which we hand rear. We have been supplying local butchers, pubs and members of the public with beef and lamb from our traditional breeds for a number of years.

We are going to keep you up to date with the day to day comings and goings on our farm here in the boundary magazine. You can also follow us on our Instagram page Perrinpit_farm_meat_boxes and our Facebook page Perrinpit Farm Meat Boxes. This month we have been spending a lot of time on our trusty tractor as we have been busy making hay – the glorious sunshine puts everyone in a good mood whilst we stock up for the winter.

We have also been very busy with the launch of our Meat Box business. We are so grateful for everyone who has supported us by buying our beef and lamb boxes. If you haven’t had one yet – don’t miss out, we still have some beef available for September. Please get in touch to reserve your box.

Next month we will be introducing you to some of our furry friends…..
